How far in advance should I book? To insure
availability it is always best to make arrangements as soon
as possible. That is not to say we wouldn't be available for
an unexpected or spontaneous absence from your office,
however your odds of getting your choice of dates
improves dramatically the farther out you plan. Holiday
weeks often fill in over a year out.
Will you match my technique? Our technique "tool belt"
is fairly diverse. While our touch will not be exactly the
same, specific technique approaches are certainly going to
be familiar and comfortable for your patients.
How far will you travel? Provided satisfactory schedule
and travel arrangements can be made, we are willing to
cover just about anywhere we are licensed. Base fees
include up to forty-five minutes of travel each way from our
home bases. For other regions please enquire about
specifics.
Will you meet with me prior to filling in? Whenever
possible we prefer to meet with you before covering. With
near-term or emergency coverage it is dependent upon
both your and our schedule. We will verbally review as
many of your procedures and protocols as feasible if a
face-to-face cannot be arranged.
Will you cover for longer terms? If the schedule
allows. We have had maternity and sabbatical coverages
of up to 10 weeks. There needs to be a high level of
compatibility for coverage of these lengths to be
satisfactory for patients, yourself and us.
Do you carry malpractice coverage? No. Almost all
policies written have provisions for locums coverage. Most
allow for 60 days in a calendar year, with one that allows
only 30 days total. Carrying our own policies is just paying
twice for the same coverage.
Why don't you have your own practice? We have a
virulent travel bug. Even when in private practice we
vacationed a minimum of 8-10 weeks per year. While we
will eventually settle down and have our own place again,
the flexibility provided by performing locums work allows
us to plan more thorough and satisfactory travel
adventures. (For example, here is what we did for 2007)
